Good morning mentors and volunteers! Lots of very important information today!
NO MENTORING NEXT WEEK - Winter break February 19-24th
Academic Enrichment Fundraiser
A big thank you to everyone who was able to attend the fundraiser on Saturday night and to those who gave so generously but were unable to attend. It was a beautiful night and a testament to the broader community that cares so much for the students and the mission of Hamilton School. Including pledges, we were able to raise approximately $88,000 for the Academic Enrichment program. We are currently working with Bay Area Community Resources on putting together a dynamic, engaging, and intellectually stimulating 5 week program for this summer. We will be sending a flyer home on Friday to all students in 4th-7th grade. We will also have some in the Mentor Center. If your student is currently in 4th,5th,6th,or 7th grade and will be returning to Hamilton next year, please encourage them to sign up for this program. It will be limited to 100 students. If you have a relationship with their parent(s), please explain the program to them and encourage them to sign up their child. The program will have a $50 enrollment fee which provides buy-in from the family and helps assure that the child attend every day. The actual cost of the program will be approximately $70,000 or $700/student. This is an amount that clearly would not be affordable for our families. So, again, a big thank you to all of you and our community for stepping up and providing this for our students. The remainder of the funds will be used for an after school enrichment program that will mirror the summer program. If you did not get a chance to donate and you would like to be a part of this, we would love your help. 100% of your dollars will go towards this program. You can simply drop off a check in the office to Patty Ravetti or Catherine Pace made payable to Hamilton School.
Hamilton School is asking that we all wear name tags while we are on campus. A permanent name tag has been created for you. They are currently hanging on the bulletin board in the hallway between the office and the teachers' lounge. You are welcome to keep it there or in your car, or in the mentor center. It is entirely up to you as long as you remember to wear it!!
Mentor Roundtable Wednesday, March 15th 6:00-8:00
You will be receiving an Evite invitation for our Mentor Roundtable to be held next month. This is a very worthwhile event. Steve, Stefanie, Catherine, Tammy and myself will be there to touch base with you, answer questions, discuss ways we can improve our program, etc. In addition, we might be having a special guest that can speak to us about understanding cultural differences. If you are able, please make a point in coming! Even if your mentorship is going extremely well, it is a valuable experience.
Kids in Mentor Center without Mentors
The issue of kids in the mentor center without their mentors has been escalating and is causing problems. We put a big sign up outside the center in the hopes that the students will not risk their privilege of having a mentor by coming in. However, please know that we are working on this issue. Tammy, Catherine and I will be monitoring the center more closely in the next few weeks as well. We have received emails from a few of you which we REALLY appreciate. PLEASE let us know whenever this happens so that we can rectify it as soon as possible.
Tammy and I are so very grateful to be a part of such an amazing community. Being in the mentor center and witnessing the relationships that are forming is a beautiful thing. We hope you are as excited as we are about the programs that are happening at Hamilton and the desire we have to help every student to realize their potential.
Remember to visit our website for all sorts of information. If your student is on a sports team, you can find their schedule. I am sure they would love for you to watch a game. The games are mostly in our gym. If you play chess, you can find out more about our program. We would love more volunteers. Lastly, if you know of someone that you think would be a great fit for our program, please have them apply to be a mentor. All of the forms are on the website. We are currently working on an online application which will simplify that process.
Creating opportunity for Hamilton School students to reach their full potential.
Have a great day!!
Michele and Tammy
